3 ⭐This book seems to start in the middle of the story. It‘s about a young teacher who has a new assignment and she‘s going to go teach school in the middle of the Amazon. One night the rain is coming and destroys all of her books and the community helps create new ones out of cloth and embroidery. And she realizes that these books are just as important as the books she had used before. The story is nice and interesting however, it is very long.

I just came across a starred review on Kirkus Reviews for this book and can't wait to read it! I love learning about indigenous cultures home and abroad, and reading fiction written by Indigenous authors. This book received a Printz Honor Book award for excellence in young adult literature. https://www.levinequerido.com/fire-from-the-sky #LGBT #LGBTQ #Sweden #Sami #IndigenousPeoples #ComingofAge #FirstLove #YoungAdultLiterature #YALiterature

Been working through these the past couple months between books or whenever I only have a few minutes here and there. Not going to have them finished before they need to be returned to the library (probably gonna buy my own copies) but I did want to point out how wonderful they are.

Hirsch adds new life to old standards with helpful insights and analyses. Harjo‘s book, with its focus on Native poetry, is sublime and should be read by everyone.

MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm I‘m not typically a poetry reader despite my various attempts to enjoy the genre. But this has me very intrigued. Stacked! 4mo
BC_Dittemore @MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm awesome! Hope you like it! 4mo

#FridayNightShare This is the first (as of yet, only) Norton Anthology of Native Nations Poetry. I spent a good chunk of February reading this and it introduced me to SO many poets whose individual collections I‘m excited to read. #midwintersolace #naturalitsy @AllDebooks @TheBookHippie @Chrissyreadit @jenniferw88

AllDebooks I love the sound of this anthology 📚 4mo
IndoorDame @AllDebooks my favorite thing about it was that it was organized by region (based loosely on old tribal boundaries), with 4 editors, each a Native poet from that region, and I found that the writing from regions I‘d actually lived in spoke to me more deeply 4mo
Chrissyreadit I was just double checking all the Friday night shares and saw you have 9 stacked for this book! I‘ve been counting the stacks Sunday or Monday so clearly if i had waited a couple days you are the winner- so i am sending you a small prize also. Can you email me your address? chrissyreadit@gmail.com 3mo

Still This Love Goes On | Buffy Sainte-Marie

If any of my #midwintersolace friends or any of my Litsy friends could use a new perspective on the darker colder days we‘ve been having, Buffy Sainte-Marie‘s words and music and Julie Fleet‘s artwork are really helping me with that this morning. #naturalitsy #hyggehugs

This book felt close to a masterpiece even with being unfinished. Not having an ending was okay for me; I actually like ambiguity and being able to imagine what might come next, and it felt like enough pieces had come together. Truly beautiful extension of Medicine Walk. Knowing there will never be more Wagamese books is a loss, however I'm grateful I've read out of publishing order and still have several I can go back to before I run out.

My birthday celebration this year is settling into my reading chair to immerse myself in the wonderful natural world created by Richard Wagamese in Starlight. Still have to stare at empty shelves in this room until Boxing Day before I can trust the paint enough to fill them, so trying to be patient. Have my husband working on the wooden mountain backdrop for the centre section though. This is the best birthday/Christmas present I ever received.

CuriousG @AmyG @Chelsea.Poole @dabbe @AnnCrystal @Anna40 @bthegood Thank you! I am truly spoiled. It's nice that my guests will now be able to sleep in this wonderful space too as before they had to be in the basement which is livable, but certainly not ideal. 5mo
