Child's Play | Andrew Neiderman
post image

Just saw #ChildsPlay. It‘s unfortunate that it‘s campy horror in the sense that it has a thought-provoking premise at its core, a la Asimov, Eggers, King, and, perhaps most closely, Shelley. Most people won‘t get past the doll facade that brings about laughter 😕. I recommend seeing it. It‘ll make you laugh quite a bit, but in the end, I consider it a tragedy.

mydearwatson So that terrifying face was not what I expected to see when I opened Litsy 😳. 5y
madamereadsalot1 I went and saw Midsommer. Now that was an excellent and beautiful horror flick! 5y

kamoorephoto @madamereadsalot1 SO want to see that! 5y
vivastory @madamereadsalot1 I saw that a couple of days ago. I loved it. After Hereditary & Midsommar I think Ari Aster is creating the most original & insightful films about grief & identity. Unfortunately, it's a very polarizing movie & I don't know if a lot of people are going to "get it". 5y
madamereadsalot1 @vivastory I want to see Hereditary now, even though I'm certain it is going to scare the bejesus out of me! I agree with you on Midsommer, it's not a "traditional" horror movie & I think most horror fans won't receive it well due to its non-conformity. It is more aligned to fairy tale horror & I think that's beautiful, & far more disturbing than your usual jump-scare/slasher flicks. It's thoughtful & well done on every front. I want more! 5y
vivastory @madamereadsalot1 Hereditary really got under my skin. Midsommer really didn't, but I feel like both movies are definitely pushing the boundaries of so-called horror. Towards the beginning of the movie I was thinking "This actually reminds me a little of a Shirley Jackson story." I wasn't too surprised when they literally had a lottery at the end for the potential 9th victim ? For me the most interesting horror films are ones doing things diff? 5y
vivastory @madamereadsalot1 My other favorite horror movie this year was Us 5y
madamereadsalot1 @vivastory I've heard Hereditary is terrifying. I can read the hell out of some horror, but watching it is all together different! I want to see Us too. I definitely prefer horror that is more cerebral. I don't watch a lot of movies, but this year I've been doing more of it than usual. 5y
