I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join in if you want!

@Mitch well you certainly stalked me well- the Dachshund pin, pillow cover, change purse (and a wire hair!) and the gasp British Library tote!!!🥳🥳🥳💖 a book all about Whiskey- a great mystery, non fiction mystery, booker listed book and Rothfus- all are amazing and I cannot thank you enough for sending me gifts from across the pond. This is a truly special day for me- thanks so very, very much!

I am generous so I am going to call this book a pick. A Glasgow detective with a failing marriage and a stalled career is sent to a small town to investigate a murder. What did I like? Well the author does a great job of invoking a place (small town west coast of Scotland) and has a likeable workaday detective and his offsider. However the viewpoint violence was not to my taste and the actual case was rather predictable. Good not great.

gradcat I do love books that take you somewhere, especially when it‘s to the degree that you can actually feel like you‘re in the very climate of the place ❤️👍😊 5y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled I like the title, at least! 🥃 5y

Touring the Bainbridge Organic Distillery, and this is today‘s whiskey mash. Amazing place. If you like distilleries or, IDK, info about distilling, this is a great place. 😋 too. 🥃

DCI Jim Daley is sent to investigate a body of a woman who washed up on the beach on the West coast of Scotland. Soon there are four dead bodies to deal with in this close-knit community. The story is infused with intrigue and dark humor. Mix in love, betrayal, fear and a plot that moves quickly and you have great mystery which will keep the pages turning. Authentic Scottish atmosphere and dialect for those who love Scottish mysteries.

Andrew65 A good reminder for me to get back to this series. 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 I‘m reading the 2nd one soon too! 6y

This was an audible daily deal audiobook. Things I liked:

- the narration was excellent, the Scottish accent helped me picture the setting,
- the characters were interesting and relatable,
- the setting of a remote small town in Scotland added to the plot.

Things I didn't like:
- predictable plot; I was hoping it was a red herring all along,
- uneven pace of narration.

It entertained me and I might well read more from the series.

It sometimes pays to take a risk & try an unknown author. Not heard of this book or author before I picked it up from the library. I found this a really enjoyable book & will be keen to read more from this series. The murders take place in a small community on the west coast of Scotland, a favourite place for me in which books are set. There is quite a bit of Scottish dialect in the book, but not something I couldn't work with. Beware the f words!

An unknown Series and author, just over halfway in and loving it - totally hooked. A little bit of gritty detail, and have to be able to put up with the odd f word. If these don't bother you, at this stage I thoroughly recommend it.

Just about to start this series, which is new to me and unsurprisingly from the title is set in Scotland. Fingers crossed 🤞 it will be a good one. I'm reading this one for a monthly challenge - this month to read a police procedural.
