A great espionage story full of tension and excellent scene-setting. Even more interesting is that this was written when the Nazis were occupying France! Highly relevant for the time and still a great story today. Recommended!

I carry three books with me most of the time: the currently reading book, the backup book, and the backup backup book in case the backup book is boring or I have a REALLY bad commute. I also choose my next books based on what will fit in my purse 😜 These are the books currently in my purse.

I'll admit to more than the usual skimming, but I blame that on a lack of focus that had little to do with the book. Needed an espionage thriller for my book challenge and went with something older and less currently popular. Mostly well written with an eye for detail. Good characterization. If I ever get a yen for another spy book or WWII book, I'd pick up another MacInnes.

What a perfect cover for a book from the 40s. Has anyone read it?
