Running & Being
Running & Being: The Total Experience | George Sheehan
1 post | 4 read | 3 to read
Written by the late, beloved Dr. George Sheehan, Running & Being tells of the author's midlife return to the world of exercise, play, and competition, in which he found "a world beyond sweat" that proved to be a source of great revelation and personal growth. But Running & Being focuses more on life than it does, specifically, on running. It provides an outline for a lifetime program of fitness and joy, showing how the body helps determine our mental and spiritual energies.Drawing from the words and actions of the great athletes and thinkers throughout history, Dr. Sheehan ties it all together with his own philosophy on the importance of fitness and sport, as well as his knowledge of training, injury prevention, and race competition. Above all, he describes what it means to experience the oneness of body and mind, of self and the universe. In this, he argues, we have the power to discover "the truth that makes men free."

Let's see for today's #augustphotochallenge, here are some facts-I really am a nerdy liberal Rev. as in really with a master's degree and everything. I also run races in kilts usually raising money for MS (my mom has it) or the American Heart Assoc (I have genetic heart disease/failure). I've run 2 marathons, 20 halves, a zombie run, and several color runs. George Sheehan is my book choice because he is a runner and philosopher.

NerdyRev I've also written 2.5 books- Grace, Whisper, and Using the Lectio Divina while running. 8y
Eyelit That's fantastic! 👍❤️ 8y
LauraBeth Wow - that is awesome! I'm going to have to read your book because I love to meditate on scripture while I'm running , or just have a conversation with God through prayer. I don't swap running for church - in other words - I'm not one of those who say "running is my religion" - I still need corporate worship every week but running is definitely my sacred pathway to God ? 8y
