The Mid Autumn Festival is coming up next month - 24 September. And lots of Chinese restaurants and hotels have started selling mooncakes! Singapore is a great place to buy mooncakes as there are plenty of fun creative mooncakes with fillings like chocolate or matcha or ice cream. This is the first time I‘m trying mooncakes from the venerable Raffles Hotel. These are champagne truffle snowskin mooncakes. We also bought traditional baked mooncakes.

RealBooks4ever Those look yummy! 😋 6y

The kids were so excited to pick up some mooncakes from the Hong Kong bakery (we bought one box of golden lotus paste and one box of white lotus paste) and at the nearby supermarket, I finally found these Taiwanese-style mung bean cakes with the flaky pastry which our neighbours introduced to us a few years ago. So good! Mid-Autumn Festival is October 4 this year. Plenty of time to eat more mooncakes!

Laura317 Moon cake! Yummmm. 7y
KassKho Aw man and now I miss Hong Kong baked goods 😩😩 I think this is a sign I need to go back! So many things are reminding of my trip last year 7y
readinginthedark That sounds amazing! I wonder if I could get those here... 7y

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! I know it's not even autumn yet but 中秋节 Zhongqiujie is held every 15th day of the 8th lunar month. Which is today Sept 15. It's a day to eat mooncakes (although mine isn't round!), drink tea (a pot of Tieguanyin), play with lanterns at night and appreciate the full moon.

Dragon Yummy 8y
Laura317 We have that book! 8y
shainareads Oval is a mooncake! 😊 Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! 8y

EricaReads Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! This is my 6th one in China and the first year I've received moon cakes I actually like! Crispy wrapping with lotus seed filling. Not a fan of the egg ones. 8y
Alytrue Great book with wonderful illustrations! I use it in my preschool classroom. 8y
RealLifeReading @Dragon I think part of that yummyness is because we only eat it once a year! 8y
RealLifeReading @Laura317 @Alytrue I love Roseanne Thong's books 8y
RealLifeReading @shainareads haha exactly! 8y
RealLifeReading @EricaReads we always make sure to buy mooncakes without the egg yolks! 8y
Dragon I think you're right. Lotus is my favourite filling 🌙 8y
monkeygirlsmama Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! 🌝I like the lotus filling mooncakes, as well as the egg yolk ones. I do not, however, like the pork floss and nut ones. 😝 8y
monkeygirlsmama @EricaReads Where in China, if you don't mind my asking? Presently I'm down in the Southern part. 8y
EricaReads @monkeygirlsmama Also the South. Hainan, how about you? 8y
monkeygirlsmama @EricaReads Dongguan area. 8y
RealLifeReading @Dragon me too. I really don't like all those funny other things they put in. In Singapore the restaurants/hotels always seem to be coming up w all kinds of new and fancy mooncakes! 8y
RealLifeReading @monkeygirlsmama I haven't tried a pork floss one before!! I do miss the snowskin mooncakes though! 8y
