Beautiful adaptation of a beloved YA fantasy novel. It's been years--decades--since I read the original so it was fun revisiting it in this new format.

RaeLovesToRead I've never read Tamora Pierce. Would you suggest reading the original novels first or diving into these? Looks lovely 🩷 1mo
JLaurenceCohen @RaeLovesToRead I'd probably read this and then go to the books since only this first volume is out 1mo

It has been a very long time since I read the original novel, so I can‘t speak for exactly how well this adaptation compares to it. However, it fit well with what I remembered and was a great story with fantastic illustrations. Alanna is one tough and determined girl!

thelorelei This edition is how I finally got my 9 year old son to read some Tamora Pierce; I got it from the library for MYSELF and he asked to read it first! 2mo
Daisey @thelorelei Perfect! 2mo
Kenyazero I just saw this cover on Hooppa during a list scroll. The art reminds me of a lot of Mercedes Lackey books 😆 how was this? 2mo
Daisey @Kenyazero I really enjoyed it, but I also have fond memories of reading the original books when I was younger. 2mo

A thousand times pick! An excellent graphic novel adaptation on one of the most formative books of my youth. The art is lovely and expressive; I love the story. I am eager for the next.

The Song of the Lioness was one of my all-time favorite series growing up, so I was thrilled to hear a graphic adaptation was in the works! I really enjoyed returning to this story in a very thoughtful and well-executed graphic format for middle grades, from nonbinary Afro-Puerto Rican comic book writer Vita Ayala and fantasy artist Sam Beck. Can‘t wait to share this with my godchild!

charl08 I loved the books as a teen - will have a look for the new adaptation. 3mo
