Abigail is trying to find her solo way in Soap Lake after her husband takes off for a work opportunity. In a separate timeline, we see Esme grow up in Soap Lake then meet the fate we see in Abigail‘s timeline. I enjoyed this overall but was sometimes thrown going back and forth between the stories, as there‘s no reminders that the timelines are different. I also thought the ending was a bit too drawn out and I got a little bored.

This is one messed up book. I loved it. If you like novels with dysfunctional characters, this one has got a bunch. The lake, the town, the desert, the canals, the orchards, it all feels dysfunctional. I wouldn‘t choose to live there. Murder, mayhem, the bogeyman, ecological destruction, a crazy, desperate cabal of sorts. It‘s a twisty tale and no one is really innocent. What a ride. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

When I first saw the title of this book I stated it can‘t be MY Soap Lake, a tiny town 6 miles from where I lived 1st thru 7th grades, but it is. This book is quirky and suspenseful told thru two timelines. It also sent me down a rabbit hole about its history and its healing waters which I don‘t recall learning about in school. Fun read! 4.25 🌟

Ruthiella What a neat connection! It‘s rare, but occasionally I have also read books set where I grew up and it‘s a trip to recognize streets and landmarks. 2w

“A lake with mysterious properties.

A town haunted by urban legend.

Two women whose lives intersect in terrifying ways.

Welcome to Soap Lake, a town to rival Twin Peaks and Stephen King‘s Castle Rock.”

Deblovestoread I can‘t wait to read this! I grew up in the next town over and couldn‘t believe it was the setting for a book. We use to swim in Soap Lake and it‘s the weirdest body of water I‘ve ever swam in. 3w
