In this propulsive new thriller from the author of the breakout debut The Quiet Tenant, a reunion between estranged siblings is interrupted when a woman is found murdered at their luxury vacation resort, dredging up memories from a shared childhood they've tried to keep buried in the past. Frida and Gabriel arrive seeking a fresh start at the stunning Ara Hotel in the secluded desert of Escalante, Utah. Once so close they were able to finish each other's sentences, they've grown apart in recent years after a sudden, unspeakable tragedy. Now, at the luxe resort, they are ready to reconnect between dips in the pool and hikes on spectacular desert trails. It all feels like paradise--until the dead body of a beautiful young woman who was vacationing at the Ara with her powerful, much older husband is discovered. When the local police arrive and put the resort into lockdown, Gabriel and Frida are forced to revisit memories from their upbringing in a cloistered cult in upstate New York, led by a charismatic and fanatical leader. It was their dramatic, fiery escape from his control fifteen years earlier that bonded them for life--or so Frida thought. Alternating between past and present timelines, Our Last Resort builds toward a shattering climax that uncovers the fate of the murdered Ara guest and reveals the shocking secrets Gabriel and Frida have been hiding for years. Taut, gripping, and intense, Clmence Michallon's sophomore suspense novel is a nail-biter until the last page, cementing her status as a major new talent in the genre.

This one pales in comparison to The Quiet Tenant 😞. Though the writing is just as clever, the characters were unlikeable, and I feel like a lot of the plot, for me, was missing.

Frida and Gabriel were raised in a cult and managed to escape together. Over the years they have drifted apart but reunite at an exclusive resort only to find themselves embroiled in a murder investigation. The story moves between the past and the present. I am torn on this one. There is a neat twist. But found I could not get engaged with the characters. Thanks to Elliott & Thompson and NetGalley for the free copy.

Michallon‘s sophomore novel is just as compelling as her debut! With dual timelines, Frida & her brother‘s life unfolds with plenty of dark violence. Raised in a Hudson Valley cult until they were 18, years later more notoriety settled on Gabriel in the wake of his wife‘s death. After nearly a decade apart, the pair reunited to discuss participating in an upcoming documentary but while at their UT resort, a woman winds up murdered! Riveting!

TorieStorieS I forgot to mention my favorite part was the kindness to the coyotes!!❤️ 3mo

I read this for review, which usually means that I don‘t post about it here. BUT in this case, it turns out that it is my #doublespin , and covered 4 #wickedwords (manager, sea breeze, and surprisingly meet-cute as well as guests from Feb). And that‘s all I‘ll say about it here 😉
