You hear a lot about modern-day “bridezillas,“ but TIL that in 1500 Henry VII asked the Queen of Spain to make sure that her daughter Catherine of Aragon's Spanish ladies were beautiful (or at least, “none of them should be ugly“), so as not to spoil her wedding to his heir Arthur.

Knowing how this would all turn out, it's hard not to feel that Catherine and her mother should have seen this as a warning. Run, Catherine! Run like the wind!

Packing for a holiday overseas to a cooler place😂I never have any trouble packing clothes.. my dilemma is always which books to pack 😬I have a 25 hr flight so it has to be engrossing, I want to carry it in my backpack when I go walking so it needs to be compact..do I take one large volume or 2 smaller...or 1 book and buy another one (or 2) over there??? I have narrowed it down to Winter King ( some history), A Column of Fire or Atonement? Help!

LapReader Atonement is one of my favourites. Have a safe a fun trip. 5y

CarolynM I always travel with too many books (and inevitably buy more). Good luck deciding. Enjoy your trip - I look forward to seeing some interesting photos. 5y

When people think Tudor, they think King Henry VIII. Very few think of, or write books about the man that started it all, by picking up the crown on the battlefield: King Henry VII. This is a great book, although a bit scattered in the beginning. Once it gets started, it clearly illustrates the difficulties that Henry faced and how he became the paranoid and micro-managing King that he became. And Vance reading it ❤️. #audiobook

Henry VII is the least known of the Tudors, but in some ways the most interesting. 1485 and Bosworth Field stands out as a turning point in history, and the start of the Tudor dynasty, but it's so easy to forget how much of his reign Henry spent just consolidating power and keeping his throne. We take it for granted, but he was paranoid and forceful, doing whatever it took to stay in power. Great read, especially if you're tired of Henry 8 or Liz.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Fantastic! This book was a very readable history of Henry VII and the beginning of the Tudor dynasty. Excellent narration by Simon Vance. I also bought this for my Kindle when it was on sale a few weeks ago so I can go back and reference it. Really well-done.
