The 2011 tsunami devastates Kai's village in coastal Japan. His life is saved but everything seems lost. Powerful, poignant Up from the Sea is a reminder that at the enter of all disasters are survivors that wonder why they survived and how they will continue on.

Bailedbailed

This book was not for me. I found it very boring and very confusing because it seemed out of order and not much description so it was difficult to read. It was a 2/5 for me so I bailed on this book. At times the book didn‘t have much description of what was happening so it was hard to understand what was happening later in the book, other that that I like the plot but wouldn‘t recommend.

MrsBabki You are doing such a great job! Impressive work, kiddo! 4y

5/5. this was soooo good. written in verse, lowitz describes the events that happened in japan on 3/11, when a deadly tsunami sweeps through kai‘s town. the character in this book really helped to explain how horrible this event was. i don‘t want to give anything away, but this book was so sad and it was so good, too. i read it in less than 1.5 hours if you want a quick read.

The quake and tsunami in 2011 was the worst. This story is told in verse. Well done

Found this on my shelves this morning and I do not remember where I got this or why I got this. It is a "novel-in-verse" which is not something I would normally chose. Such a mystery. @Cinfhen #homebythesea #rockinmay

Reviewsbylola I have a few mystery books on my shelves. I've never noticed that one on yours! 7y
Cinfhen It actually sounds really good, I'm stacking it! You can always add it to your LFL 😁 7y
Mdargusch It would be a quick read @Cinfhen and @Reviewsbylola 7y
