Riding Lessons
Riding Lessons: A Novel | Sara Gruen
6 posts | 12 read | 6 to read
As a world-class equestrian and Olympic contender, Annemarie Zimmer lived for the thrill of flight atop a strong, graceful animal. Then, at eighteen, a tragic accident destroyed her riding career and Harry, the beautiful horse she cherished. Now, twenty years later, Annemarie is coming home to her dying father's New Hampshire horse farm. Jobless and abandoned, she is bringing her troubled teenage daughter to this place of pain and memory, where ghosts of an unresolved youth still haunt the fields and stablesand where hope lives in the eyes of the handsome, gentle veterinarian Annemarie loved as a girl . . . and in the seductive allure of a trainer with a magic touch. But everything will change yet again with one glimpse of a white striped gelding startlingly similar to the one Annemarie lost in another lifetime. And an obsession is born that could shatter her fragile world.

My granddaughter started riding lessons!!! ??? I was shocked that my daughter found a place that would teach 3yr olds, but what a sweet little lesson it was?

The best part was when she looked at me and the Mr. and yelled "Nanma, Papa, I'm riding a horse!" ?

TheSpineView How adorable! I started riding around her age and it has been an addiction ever since. 60 years later still riding and competing. You might have created a monster. 💜🐎 1mo
TheBookgeekFrau @TheSpineView I took lessons when I was 8, but I didn't like showing, I preferred fun riding at my BFF's house. My daughter started lessons at 8 and showed like crazy until her teens. So here we are at the 3rd generation, and now my daughter's thinking it's time she herself learns Western! 🤦🏻‍♀️We've probably created TWO monsters🤣🤣 But there is nothing like barn time💕💕🐴 (🩶your profile pic btw) 1mo
TheSpineView @TheBookgeekFrau Two!!! Oh my!!! 1mo

TheSpineView Forgot to add, if you are ever in upstate SC come by the barn. Plenty of lesson horses to ride. We are an eventing barn but have lots of kids and adults at all levels. 1mo

TheBookgeekFrau @bookandbedandtea Thank you 😊 It really is! My daughter is just beyond to be able to share this most important aspect of her life with her daughter. And honestly, I've missed being at a barn 😁 1mo
bookandbedandtea @TheBookgeekFrau Ahhh that's the good stuff! (I hope you and yours are safe and warm today ❄️) 1mo
TheBookgeekFrau @bookandbedandtea We're safe and warm enjoying a family snow day 🥰 How are you doing? I believe you got more snow than we did 1mo
bookandbedandtea @TheBookgeekFrau That's lovely! No snow days here, except for my grandson, but everyone is home and warm now. I haven't heard the official totals but there's over a foot in our yard. 1mo
TheBookgeekFrau @bookandbedandtea We got 9" in our yard, but it's snowing again and they're calling for another 6". Schools are closed again tomorrow as well. Glad you and yours are all safe at home ? 1mo

I always enjoy Sarah Gruen's writing talent and storytelling ability! I have to say, I personally found the Marie, the main character, very dislikable. Throughout the majority of the book she seemed self-centered and selfish, rude, and thoughtless. At times I felt sorry for her but did not like her. The story was very interesting and I enjoyed it and in the end enjoyed the book very much!

This was a very enjoyable book and very easy to read. A little predictable at times, however, still a good book with a good story.

I liked this book for a simple read that you don't have to think too much about. It had some fun little twists that definitely made it interesting and it all really came full circle in the end. It's not my favorite by Sara Gruen, but I enjoyed it and it made me smile.
