Unfortunately, this is not one of Hoag‘s best efforts. The first third was slow and kind of fractured. The novel picks up speed, becoming more interesting as it goes along. Set in Louisiana, with a good sense of place and intriguing dialogue. Detective Annie Broussard, and her husband Nick Fourcade work interconnected cases linked to past actions of long term residents of their town.

I enjoyed this. I got it at random from the library and didn't realize it was 3rd in a series but it worked well for me as a stand alone. I liked both Annie and Nick and the way they balanced their relationship with him also being her boss at work. The multiple cases interested me and I felt like I got a good sense of their small town and it's inhabitants. I kinda wished I'd listened to this one as I'd have loved the Cajun accents.

What a great read. It's been a while since I read a Tami Hoag book. I heard good things about Bad Liar, and so I borrowed it from LibbyApp.

There's a missing person case, a dead body found, a woman abused, a mom who puts her son above everyone else, a mom trying to save her son and on top of that great characters and great writing. I was hooked when I read the synopsis of the book. ⬇️
