Aruba, a Brief History
Aruba, a Brief History: Early Days, Lago, Devil's Island Escapees, the Antilla Sinking, and the U-156 Attack | Ed McGlynn
4 posts | 1 read
Ed and family were part of Lago from 1929 until 1947. The book is not academic or scholarly, but it gives some of the basic facts in an entertaining way, I hope. Naturally, it deals with government, the oil refinery, and WWIII

Pickpick

This is a humorous look at the history of #Aruba, mainly during the author‘s and his family‘s lifetimes on the island, the 1920s on, with family photos. It was really not the place it is now, which is thanks to big oil that can afford to make a desert island with no water source into a vacation destination. The humor makes it fun, but there‘s a misplaced joke at the beginning about Japanese internment camps in WWII. And there are typos. ⬇️
