The flurry of Handmaids Tale inspired YA stories coming out in the past few years have become one of my new guilty pleasures and this one was better than most in that terrifying vein of I sort of believe this could actually happen but I can‘t look away…

This is essentially a YA Handmaids Tale…but I loved HT so I‘m not mad about it 😂 The ending was silly and there were a few untied loose ends, but it‘s an enjoyable read!

2⭐What was with the chapters…it‘s like they stopped mid-thought. It was jarring, to say the least. I wanted to like this more than I did since the premise was really interesting. Unfortunately, the execution was way off. It tried to vibe with The Handmaids Tale and The Grace Year but it was nowhere as good/indelible as they were. I even believe that this is probably more like a 1-star rating but since I'm digging the cover...I'll let it stand.

3 ⭐If you have ever watched Hulu‘s the Handmaid‘s Tale, then you have the exact feeling of this book. This book reads as if it‘s a continuation or companion to that series. Women are supposed to be subservient. Teen girls are not allowed to be around men and they are always to have a chaperone at all times. The book pulls you in from the beginning knowing that one of the chaperones has died. It could cause problems for her

This is a fascinating dystopian novel about New America as girls and boys are segregated until they graduate from high school and then marriages are “arranged” by their parents. Each girl has had a “chaperone” since childhood as she must never be alone. All you need. It‘s a wild look that will have you hugging your family close!
