Blood Sugar | Nicole Blackman
5 posts | 3 read | 2 to read
Unavailable since it blasted out of stock in its first printing, this is a disturbing and evocative collection of new work and selected poems from alt-rock diva and queen poetess Nicole Blackman. Her brutal accounts of obsession and beauty have made her a favourite contributor to the New York Times and the Village Voice as well as five major anthologies, including 'Aloud: Voices from the Nuyorican Poets Cafe', 'Verses that Hurt' and 'Poetry Nation'. She performs regularly on the underground scene with such other prominent figures as Lydia Lunch and Karen Finley.

Disturbing. Evocative. Brutal. Beautiful. Gritty.

This is a great collection by spoken-word poet Nicole Blackman. It‘s been years since I last read this but it‘s still one of my favorite poetry collections.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My first under goal reading in a long time! I've been creeping back down but I didn't expect this after last nights party palooza with ribs and fries! But I'm trying to be encouraging with my sisters new diagnosis and it helps to have each other when we're frustrated.

robinb That's great news...you go girl! 🎉 7y
CocoReads @Robin thanks! It was nice to see. This is the longest it's been out of control for a long time. 7y

My #poetry collection. Nicole Blackman and Sylvia Plath are two of my favorites out of these. I haven't read the Frost, Dickinson, or Aloud yet. Hopefully I'll get to them next year.

I have never been a big poetry person. Most of the time, particularly in school, I felt like...my brain isn't wired that way. But when I was in college I went to Ladyfest (in Olympia, WA in August of 2000). I saw Nicole Blackman perform on the main stage and I was like, "Ohhhhhh. Oh. Holy shit. Poetry." I ran into her on the sidewalk the next day, and she was soooo friendly, and I was awestruck. #augustofpages #bookphotochallenge #readwomen
