Flower Is a Friend
Flower Is a Friend | Frieda Wishinsky
2 posts | 1 read
In the garden ecosystem, a flower means many things toeach bird, insect, and creature. What does a flower do? They may not seem active to humaneyes, but for the creatures of the garden they dust a bumblebee, shade a frog, feed a hummingbird, and serve as the center of a buzzing, humming, thrummingcommunity. In A Flower is a Friend, award-winning author FriedaWishinsky's spare text whispers softly to readers about the many ways a flowercares for those around it, while award-winning illustrator Karen Patkau'sstriking art provides a close-up view of each mouse, frog, and butterfly withina blossom's embrace. Rich back matter unfurls further information about thepartnerships within the garden ecosystem, including the ways these gardencreatures are friends to flowers in return.

Y‘all, my sweet friend made this book vase, thanking me for serving as team treasurer this soccer season. 🥹

(It‘s some random book from a thrift store, and not in great condition, for those worried about the whole book-destroying issue. At least it‘s still serving a purpose!)

squirrelbrain It‘s gorgeous! ❤️ 4d
CoveredInRust That's beautiful! And yes! Books work so well as art projects 😊 4d
TheKidUpstairs Books can be fragile things, I love when they can be repurposed like this, after their life of sharing stories is done! 4d

4 ⭐ This is set up as a board book and it has a line per page of two things, usually a flower and an animal helping each other. Then that page asks a question. It waits until the very end to give you the answers. It tells you about ladybugs and bats and hummingbirds, and all the animals that were in the book. I thought it was a little odd at first, but it all comes together quite well.
