Before the Fact is a ground-breaking psychological drama of immense power, described as 'one of the finest studies of murder ever written'. Inspiring Hitchcock's classic film Suspicion, this classic title was written in the golden age of crime fiction and remains utterly compelling to this day. When wealthy but plain Lina McLaidlaw marries feckless Johnny Aysgarth, she is certain she can change him for the better. Despite her hopes, she is soon forced to acknowledge the truth - that he is not only a compulsive liar and a crook but also a murderer. She continues to love him, while fearing she will inevitably become one of his victims. Written in the age of Agatha Christie's mysteries, this suspenseful novel turns the storytelling on its head, introducing you to the murderer early on before going on to explore the psychology of the relationship between murderer and victim in enthralling detail. ABOUT THE SERIES: Arcturus Crime Classics showcase unjustly neglected works by great writers from the 1930s - the so-called golden age of crime writing - through to the 1970s. From conventional whodunnits to slick thrillers, the series encompasses every facet of this ever-popular genre.

I‘ve been spending this snowy Sunday afternoon with tea and a classic 1932 crime novel (which inspired the Alfred Hitchcock film, Suspicion). Malice Aforethought by this author is a favourite of mine and this one seems to be shaping up quite nicely. 😀

Cathythoughts Snow !! And what sounds like an amazing book. Stacked. Wish I could stack the snow too ♥️ 1y
LeahBergen @batsy I‘m almost finished and really enjoying it. It‘s not as good as Malice Aforethought, though! 1y
LeahBergen @Cathythoughts I‘ll send some snow your way. 😆 1y
Centique It sounds like a wonderful day and your mug is beautiful too 😍 1y
LeahBergen @Centique Thank you! The new mug practically fell into my lap. I was heading out on some errands last weekend and a neighbour was hosting a mini pottery sale in her garage, with the works of three of her potter friends. Well, I had to buy something to be be neighbourly, right? 😉🤣 1y
