All Things Aside
All Things Aside: Major Notes on Minor Issues | Iliza Shlesinger
5 posts | 8 read | 4 to read
From the razor-sharp mind of comedian Iliza Shlesinger, a collection of rants, raves, and insights about the exasperating issues of everyday life All Things Aside tackles life--from the macro to micro--in Iliza Shlesinger's no-bullshit comedic style. Topics range from diatribes on the idea of the high-maintenance girl to the notion that products marketed specifically to women are scams, and all manner of things in between. Shlesinger asks herself the all-important question that every woman is forced to consider at some point--Am I actually an annoying person?--and she'll walk readers through a devastating miscarriage, which she manages to navigate not only with grace, but somehow, with side-splitting humor. Throughout the book, Shlesinger dives from one subject into the next, getting carried away with the tangents of life much like she does in her stand-up comedy. All Things Aside is a punchy, honest, riotous book that shares with readers a view of the world through the eyes of the inimitable Iliza Shlesinger.

Says nostalgia is boring, then engages in her own nostalgia (and it‘s boring 🤨)

I decided to give this a chance despite books by celebrities not being my usual thing.

It started less funny and engaging than I expected but fortunately improved later. A quick and pretty fun book, even if it reads more angry than her stand-ups. Still, since it‘s read by the author who knows how to deliver her own jokes, the audiobook recommended.

3.5/5

As I‘ve said in other reviews, autobiographies aren‘t my preferred genre. That being said this book was ok but didn‘t stand out for me. I‘ve heard Iliza‘s sets before but, for me, it didn‘t translate into the page and while it was relatable it felt like a long rant.

I love iliza‘s podcast and her standup shows. I have seen her twice in person. I thought this book was true to Iliza‘s brand. I thought some tales were hilarious and relatable, and some missed the mark (for me). I highly recommend the audiobook (read by her) to enjoy the experience.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If you‘re familiar with Shlesinger‘s standup, you‘ll understand this book, her delivery, funny voices, incredible arguments, and beautiful feminism. If not, then I don‘t think you‘ll enjoy this quite as much. She broaches some sensitive topics here, always with a humorous spin.

PS. Some of this material appears in her newest Netflix special. It‘s a good set, but her outfit was very distracting. #iykyk

Cinfhen Not familiar with this comedian/ think I‘ll check out her Netflix show first 😁 1y
britt_brooke @Cinfhen She has 6-7 Netflix specials now. My favorite is “Elder Millennial,” but I like them all. 1y
