How Do I Un-Remember This?
How Do I Un-Remember This?: Unfortunately True Stories | Danny Pellegrino
6 posts | 3 read | 2 to read
From the host of Everything Iconicwith Danny Pellegrino comes a collection of stories you'll be glad didn't happen to you. Think of the most embarrassing thing that's every happened to you. Was it the time your high school cheer squad taunted you in front of the entire town? Was it the time your best friend's mom caught you streaking in all your naked, self-conscious glory? What about the time you accidentally threw a tooth at your drycleaner or took an urn into Kohl's for some holiday shopping? For Danny Pellegrino, the answer is all of the above. Growing up as a closeted gay kid in small-town Ohio wasn't easy, and Danny has the stories to prove it. But coming of age in the 90s still meant something magical to Danny. The music, film, and celebrity moments of his youth were truly iconic, and his love for all things pop culture connected him to a world larger than the one he knew in the suburban Midwest. And through all the pains of growing up, Danny could always look to that world for hope--whether that meant bingeing The Nannyuntil he had the confidence of Fran Fine, belting out Brandy songs until his heartaches were healed, or watching semi-clothed Ryan Phillippe scenes until his cheeks burned from blushing. With refreshing honesty and jaw-dropping absurdity, Danny invites readers to experience his most formative moments in life--from his hometown in Ohio to his hit podcast and career in entertainment today. How Do I Un-Remember This?is an unfiltered and all-too-relatable glimpse into Danny's life and the heartfelt and hilarious moments that shaped it. Although he wouldn't change them for the world, these stories are--unfortunately--true.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I wasn‘t previously familiar with Danny Pellegrino, but he is freaking delightful! I loved this personal essay collection, largely about growing up closeted in small-town Ohio, and how the internet and pop culture helped him through adolescence. We‘re of the same generation, so the pop culture references hit. I mean, The Nanny was iconic! His audio narration was perfection!

EKonrad His Instagram account is a good time! He‘s hilarious. ☺️ 10mo
britt_brooke @EKonrad Yes! I just started following him. So funny! 10mo

Not just pure gold… this is pure platinum. If you‘re a 90s kid, this book is a true gem. It‘s so wonderfully nostalgic and funny as hell. Danny just might be my spirit animal now. I hadn‘t thought of those stupid weepuls in decades and loved that someone else knew about them (last I talked about them I was looked at like I was making it all up). Danny is an absolute delight and completely worth a listen. 🧡🧡🧡

julesG That's what they were called? I can't remember what the German term was for them, but we definitely had them like everywhere. 2y
GingerAntics @julesG yeah, when I googled them I found out they were used for advertising and were all over in the Netherlands and Germany. 2y

Oh my god! I haven‘t thought of weepuls in DECADES!!! I had this one, in fact. We all collected them as prizes for selling magazine subscriptions that made money for Catholic schools. Holy crap, I love that he had these two. This book is a 90s kid gem!!!

DinoMom I was just talking about these to my 7 year old the other day. He brought home a fundraiser for school and that got us talking about what I used to get when fundraising. 2y
GingerAntics @DinoMom in hind sight I‘m wondering how many of these are now sitting in landfills now, but these were all the rage for the month or so we were selling those magazines. lol I googled them, and they are marketing tools. It‘s sad. We were just free labour. 2y
