Mystery, fear, betrayal and uncertainty abound as Harriet‘s story unfolds against the backdrop of Etruscan tombs and cemeteries. Influenced by D.H. Lawrence‘s travelogue Etruscan Places,Lappin elegantly brings the characters, Italian countryside and surroundings to life in vivid, engrossing prose. A solid, well-written tale wrought in entrancing detail.“ Kirkus

“The road to the tombs skirted a field of shrivelled sunflowers. An army of nodding heads on stalks, bowed and blackened, awaiting harvest. There were no houses out this way... Here & there on a hilltop, a dead oak or cypress punctuated the empty sky where hungry crows perched low.... I had come to this remote corner of Italy to research Etruscan sites.“

I couldn't let November slip by without paying homage to Harriet and her count in The Etruscan --- eggs, pomegranates, boars are all symbols of rebirth in the novel, a gothic tale set in 1922....
