For fans of Small Spaces and the Goosebumps series by R.L Stine comes a chilling ghost story about a girl living in the decrepit and creepy mansion, who discovers something in the woods is after her. All Ginny Anderson wants from her summer is to sleep in, attend a mystery writing workshop, and spend time with her best friend. But when Ginny's fathera respected restoration expert in Chicagosurprises the family with a month-long trip to Michigan, everything changes. They aren't staying in a hotel like most families would. No, they're staying in a mansion. A twenty-six room, century-old building surrounded by dense forest. Woodmoor Manor. But unfortunately, the mansion has more problems than a little peeling wallpaper. Locals claim the surrounding woods are inhabited by mutated creatures with glowing eyes. And some say campers routinely disappear in the woods, never to be seen again. As terrifying as it sounds, Ginny can't shake the feeling that there's something darker . . . another story she hasn't been told. When the creaky floors and shadowy corners of the mansion seem to take on a life of their own, Ginny uncovers the wildest mystery of all: There's more than one legend roaming Saugatuck, Michigan, and they definitely aren't after campers. It's after her. "This is a teeth-chattering, eyes bulging, shuddering-and-shaking, chills-at-the-back-of-your-neck ghost story. I loved it!"R.L. Ginny‘s father takes their family to #Michigan for the summer because he has a job to plan renovations for a mansion plagued by mysterious stories and weird occurrences. Ginny‘s favorite author is Agatha Christie, and she decides this is the perfect mystery to solve and write about. I agree with some other reviews that the title is misleading, but it‘s a good ghost story!

Daisey I‘m sure the author‘s own love of Agatha Christie is part of the inspiration here, but I‘m also not sure it will be a draw for younger readers although it may lead them to her books. I would recommend for readers of Mary Downing Hahn. 1y

This was a fantastic, fun, read. I‘ve enjoyed 2 other Lindsay Currie books, & this was no exception. A haunted house near some creepy woods, an aspiring mystery writer determined to solve the haunting..there‘re some creepy scenes but nothing too extreme for middle graders. This book is perfect for fall reading, book lovers, & Agatha Christie fans! I liked the relatable & likeable characters, the siblings relationship, & the nicely paced story.

Daisey Glad to hear this, I just started it as my class independent read alongside my students and thought it would be perfect for this time of year. 1y

I read books written for all ages because a story can be fantastic whether it‘s a picture book or a classic tome. I usually like MG scary books because adult horror is usually too scary for me, but I think love this one like I did the author‘s other book, Scritch Scratch. Again, a title should set the tone of a poem or book and this really wasn‘t about anything in the woods, but rather what was haunting a mansion built in the 1930s👇

Palimpsest The protagonist, Ginny, go to Michigan on vacation with her brother and parents so her dad can help renovate an old mansion where lightbulbs burst and shadows seem to move. Ginny kept said she would solve it all like Agatha Christie, her idol, but it didn‘t feel like a mystery to me, more like a scary Scooby Doo. I liked the historical aspects and ending. While books should be enjoyed by all this is more kiddish than other “kid” books I‘ve read. 3y

Settling in tonight with this creepy read. Big old scary mansion in the woods, rumors and legends about hitchhikers and shadow people, and a kick-ass 12 year old make for great #Spooktober reading, especially with the Great British Baking Show in the background. Up to Chapter 21 and so far so good!

PatriciaU Omigosh folks…this is so good! The second really well-done middle grade ghost/horror story I‘ve read this season (Halloween Moon was the first). I was a little afraid this would be a rip-off of The Watcher in the Woods, but it‘s straight-up ghost story. Got this through Early Reads so not sure when it‘s out in stores. Grab it up if you can find it. #Ghosts #Ghostober 3y
PatriciaU My only gripe is that the title is misleading. The ghost story doesn‘t have anything to do with the woods and it‘s never established that anything actually lives in the woods. But the main ghost story is great. 3y
