A beautiful maiden who poaches to feed the poor. A handsome forester on a mission to catch her. Danger and love are about to unite in Thornbeck Forest. The margrave owns the finest hunting grounds for miles around—and who teaches children to read, but by night this young beauty has become the secret lifeline to the poorest of the poor. For Jorgen Hartman, the margrave’s forester, tracking down a poacher is a duty he is all too willing to perform. Jorgen inherited his post from the man who raised him . . . a man who was murdered at the hands of a poacher. When Jorgen and Odette meet at the Midsummer festival and share a connection during a dance, neither has any idea that they are already adversaries. The one man she wants is bound by duty to capture her; the one woman he loves is his cunning target . . . What becomes of a forester who protects a notorious poacher? What becomes of a poacher when she is finally discovered?

I finished my second to last semester on a stressful note, but it is over and I‘m now working before I go to Great Britain for a study abroad. I finally got over my long everything-book-related slump with this audiobook. It was ok, I didn‘t know it was Christian fiction which usually isn‘t my thing. I was more annoyed with Odette and Jorgen‘s insta-love and their perfect, can do nothing wrong character type. The ending was pretty ridiculous too.

This book was not quite what I expected. I imagined Odette as having more of the qualities of the original Robin Hood. I also found the writing style disappointing and all the turns of events perhaps a little bit too convenient. Not a bad book by any means, but not an excellent one either.

I'm always up for a new spin on a fairytale, especially this one, which I'll call "Swan Lake meets Robin Hood."

Also loved the tiny exchange between Odette and the monk when she quoted Scripture to contradict him and he got mad and left. 1300s feminism at work ?
