As well as being a professional storyteller, Lisa Schneidau is an ecologist and environmental lobbyist, all three aspects of which she brings to these retellings of traditional stories dealing with forest lore. Each section is prefaced with a short commentary on what the tales can teach us about the ecosystem and climate change. My only reservation being her advocacy of culling wild deer to encourage forest regeneration - I'm not an ecologist, ⬇️

Bookwomble ... but I wonder if nonviolent methods of population control are available. Anyway, an enjoyable collection of some old favourites and some that were new to me.
Soundtrack, obviously 🎶Woodland Rock 🎶 by Marc Bolan and T.Rex 😊💚 #BooksAndMusic

"Woodlands in Britain and Ireland that have been recorded continuously on maps since the sixteenth century are called 'ancient'."

I'm in one of those moods where I can't stick to one book, flitting from one to another, hence I've started reading what is technically number 14 on my "Currently Reading" list.
I love folk tales, and this collection is themed around the forests and woods of Britain and Ireland. The author is an oral storyteller and this is one of three books she's written of the traditional tales she's adapted for her craft.

Bookwomble Now, trees 🌳 have leaves, leaves 🌿 are green 💚, limes 🍋(why is there no lime emoji?) are green, lime cordial in gin is green 🟢 (kinda), so it's perfectly acceptable for me to have a lime martini 🍸while reading this book 📗, I mean, it's practically mandatory! 2mo

The_Book_Ninja I accidentally discovered that by having 2/3 books on the go at the same time, I bailed less and didn‘t get slumps. I‘m sure that‘s not massively revelatory to the seasoned reader but that‘s my contribution to this Womble post✊🏼 2mo
Bookwomble @The_Book_Ninja Thank you for your contribution 😄 Always welcome. I rarely get slumps where I just can't read, but do have times when I can't really settle on one thing. Poetry is good for me then, as are short stories. Presently it seems to be more a case of a few pages from this one, then a few from that one. Though the Bowie book I'm reading is fully holding my attention! 🧑🏼‍🎤 2mo
