2 posts | 1 read | 4 to read
"This book focuses on the blend of American and Mexican folk magic currently being used by those living in the US but whose roots are in the Mexican culture. This type of Mexican-American folk magic contains its own unique saints and spirits, as well as the more familiar, such as the infamous Santa Muerte. It is extremely similar to Conjure traditions of the American south and, in fact, shares a lot of crossover, demonstrating how these traditions have influenced one another"--

I don't know much about Mexican folk magic, and felt like this was a good introduction. The author explains things well, takes the time to acknowledge what is different from one family to the next, and emphasizes the harm of cultural appropriation (and colonization) throughout. Occasionally, it felt like the author minorly contradicted himself. #Magic #Witchy #FolkMagic

She got an egg and rubbed it all over him while reciting the Hail Mary in Spanish. She cracked the egg and it had these ugly bolitas on the yolk. She said someone had given him the 1y
Reggie evil eye. And within the hour, he was up like he hadn‘t been sick for the past week. 1y
Kenyazero @Reggie That must have been a really scary but really interesting experience! I'm glad your Tia's work helped your brother recover! 1y
