Can Roger melt Lila's icy heart? Clumsy, shy Roger Barrett has always had a crush on the glamorous, wealthy Lila Fowler, but it's hopeless. She's the queen bee, and he secretly works as a janitor after school. The only attention Lila ever pays to him is to make fun of him in front of her friends. When Roger wins the qualifying heat for a big race, he becomes an instant school celebrity. To his surprise, Lila begins to chase after him, but he knows if he runs in the race finals after school, he will lose his job. Should he give up Lila's attentions? Can he risk being fired? Will Lila notice him if he's no longer a star? From bestselling author Francine Pascal.

The Barton Ames Memorial Mile Race has a grand prize of a Sweet Valley College & Bruce Patman brags that he will win, not caring about the prize. Liz knows Roger Barrett‘s secret life as a janitor to support his sick mother & alcoholic father, so she encourages him to run, but it‘s only his one-sided crush on Lila who convinces him. Meanwhile, Olivia Davidson is in love with Roger who finally realizes Lila is too shallow, but he breaks the record!

3✨There is less teen drama and more self-discovery thankfully. Roger was seen by Elizabeth mopping floors at her dads office. He is embarrassed because of the image of his job, but needs it for his family. When his long time crush mentions she wants to see him run in a competition that could get him a scholarship everyone learns how fast he really is. I like that this book features supporting characters that I‘m looking forward to see more of.

Re-reading my SVH‘s as part of my #paperbackcrush challenge. This book was the first that had neither of the Wakefield sisters on the cover. It‘s main story is about Lila, Jessica Wakefield‘s best friend. The twins are definitely still very present in the story, along with all the stereotypes that SVH is known for. Mindless and nostalgic reading at its best! However, not one of my favs in the series...
