Girl Hearts Girl | Lucy Sutcliffe
12 posts | 11 read | 10 to read
An inspiring, uplifting and sympathetic story about sexuality and self-acceptance, Lucy Sutcliffe's debut memoir is a personal and moving coming out story. In 2010, at seventeen, Lucy Sutcliffe began an online friendship with Kaelyn, from Michigan. They began a long distance relationship, finally meeting in 2011. Lucy's video montage of their first week spent together was the first in a series of vlogs documenting their long-distance relationship. Now, for the first time, Lucy's writing about the incredible personal journey she's been on.

Mehso-so

Clearly a book meant for a teen audience, and a young one at that. An interesting read, and quick, but the writing was a bit choppy and repetitive. This would be a good book to have in a middle grade collection because it does fill a void.

Dragged this out of the depths of my tbr because I wanted something a little on the lighter side. We'll see how it goes.

I read this book last weekend and I really enjoyed it. I will warn you that it does include some problematic scenes, so be aware! Still 5 stars though! You can read my full review in English on Goodreads (I'm Mariesen) and in Danish on my blog, mariesen.dk 😊

There are so many amazing UKYA LGBT books out there but I have chosen Girl hearts Girl because it's just that little bit different. This book is a memoir and it is full of struggles, difficulties and finally learning to love yourself. It ends with hope and happiness and that is just perfect. #UKYANov

Growing up in a small town in the 90s, there were incredibly few LGBT books available to me - I think that I read a tiny handful as a teen, stumbled on by accident. Visiting my parents today, I called in their local bookshop (Waterstones) and was completely thrilled to find Lucy Sutcliffe's memoir not just in stock, but face out on the shelf! There is still a long way to go, of course, but it reminded me progress HAS been made.

"You have to work at a relationship, but you don't have to work at love."
I LOVED this book. It was beautifully written and so relatable as someone who struggled with my sexuality when I was young. I highly recommend this book for any LGBT people or friends of them ??

My current #tbrtuesday. Too many to pick from, never enough reading time, and I'm on day three of a stupid migraine, so I can't make a decision anyway.

Karen3 This is amazing! So many that I want to read. 8y
Suzze Some of the same TBR books as I have. And others that I'll now have to look up. 8y
Laalaleighh The hopefuls! Just sitting on my shelf, being all about DC society and power politics, like "Hey poli-sci major, I'm about all the things you're obsessed with IRL, why are you reading that science fiction book instead?". It's high up on my TBR list. 8y

AmyS I'm sorry you're feeling crappy. Migraines are the worst. Here's hoping you feel better soon and can get back to your TBR! 8y
