"The do-right"--that's old Southern talk for prison. Delpha Wade doesn't want to go back there. Fourteen years is enough.

#7Days7Covers #CoverCrush Day 7

Hiya @OrangeMooseReads — I haven‘t seen you in a bit. I‘m just wondering if you‘d like to join in with your own favorite covers. All you do is post a favorite cover for seven consecutive days—no explanation or description required—and then tag a friend and invite that person to do the same. Hope to see your cover choices!! ♥️

EadieB Interesting cover! 5y
Andrew65 Simple but effective! 👍😊 5y
gradcat @EadieB & @Andrew65 Thanks guys! I really loved this little book as well, but I‘ll admit that I‘m biased because I know the town she writes about very well. 5y

Andrew65 @gradcat What town is that? 5y
gradcat @Andrew65 Hi Andrew! How are you today? It‘s a very small town in Texas, called Beaumont. We lived there briefly (2 years) when I was a teenager and my Dad‘s work transferred him there. Not much to recommend it, but as I was just barely a teenager, I guess I really remember it ... strange that I do, though. Now that I think about it, the author really catches the local color & flavor of small-town east Texas very well. I must say, I liked the book (edited) 5y
OrangeMooseReads Thanks for including me. I will join in the fun 😊👍🏼 5y
EadieB @gradcat Well my uncle lived in Beaumont. He worked for Carnation Milk Company. It was George and Mabel Milich. They had 2 children Mike and Carol 5y
Andrew65 @gradcat Thankfully been a couple of good days pain wise. But after Saturday being very well behaved with a reasonably fat free diet. Even turned down the most beautiful looking cakes when I went to a lunchtime meeting at the secondary school yesterday. Just as well as has been a couple of very busy work days, including my final appraisal review today. (edited) 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB Is this where @gradcat says she‘s Carol! 😂😂😂 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 That would be funny! 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 How did your appraisal go? 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB Very well given the impossible year we had last year. Never known a year like it and would have sent most schools into total meltdown. Did a great job of holding the school together and in the main overall strong results with one exception, which given everything is really remarkable. But need to do much better this year, been a very positive start. And actually got a Deputy, the ultimate luxury. 👏👏👏 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 Sounds Great! Just hope you can get your problem taken care of without much adverse impact on your job. 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB Me too!!! Working hard to get everything in place, in case need to take time off, e.g. if decide to take out gall bladder. 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 Did a little googling: You may have gallbladder surgery as an outpatient, or you may stay 1 or 2 days in the hospital. Most people can return to their normal activities in 7 to 10 days. People who have laparoscopic gallbladder surgery are sore for about a week. 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB Yes providing key hole surgery (if needed) shouldn‘t be too long. There are also possible ways of dispersing gall stones. So waiting to see what diagnosed with and how they seek to resolve it. 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 I'll keep my fingers crossed that it won't take too long to repair whatever the problem may be. I'll even throw in a few prayers! 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB Thanks 😊 🙏 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 Your welcome! They say that prayer can move mountains (and gall stones). 5y
robinb Wishes for pain relief and resolution to your issue @Andrew65 . I‘ve been battling another kidney stone lately so I feel your pain. 🙏 5y
Andrew65 @robinb Thanks Robin, sounds like we make a right pair between us. Hope you get some resolution from it quickly. 🙏 (edited) 5y
Crazeedi @Andrew65 andrew hope your pain is resolved soon will lift you in prayer this am! 5y
robinb @Andrew65 Thank you kind sir. 😊 5y
gradcat @EadieB & @Andrew65 Well, I‘m not Carol (😂🤣😂) ... I don‘t remember anyone by that name, but my mom might. It is a small town after all. Congratulations Andrew on your appraisal (while I‘m not exactly sure what that is, I can probably guess) and getting a deputy (ditto last parenthetical aside). I‘m really hoping that your weekend tests provide an answer for you—after all, I‘m sure just getting a diagnosis would relieve a lot of stress. 🙏🤞🏼♥️ 5y
gradcat @OrangeMooseReads Glad you‘re playing—don‘t forget to tag me so I can see your covers!! ♥️ 5y
Andrew65 @gradcat Appraisal very simple, people coming in to judge how well I‘ve done in my role of head Teacher / Principal over the last year and whether I and the school met the very tough targets set! Very difficult year last year as had very difficult challenges, no second in command (Deputy) all year and another senior leader not there either. Like King Canute holding back the tide single handed. 😂 Toughest year by a long way in 17 years 👇 (edited) 5y
Andrew65 @gradcat 👆of being a headteacher / principal. Yes would be good just to confirm what issue is. Although no time to be ill, this year set off at 100 miles an hour and am on fire in work mode (possibly because know if need to take time off for an operation I need to know everything set up well for my Deputy). @EadieB 5y
Andrew65 @Crazeedi Thanks 😊👍👏🙌🙏 5y
gradcat @Andrew65 You‘re the Head? I didn‘t know that...talk about stress!! Okay, last time: Please, please, PLEASE, take care of you first...then you can better take care of everyone else! 5y
Andrew65 @gradcat Oh yes the buck stops with me. Been head for 17 years. 4 years in my first school and 13 years in this school. It‘s always interesting. 😂 Will try to take it easy but not sure universe lets me! (edited) 5y
gradcat @Andrew65 Let‘s just hope we have an answer for you after the weekend! It‘s getting closer.... I‘ll be thinking about you until they give you a firm answer (oh, and after that too, but esp. while you‘re under the weather)! 5y
Crazeedi @Andrew65 I'll be thinking of you this weekend. Hope you get some answers so you can be well and concentrate on your school and your books!😉❤ 5y
Andrew65 @Crazeedi Thanks 😊👍 @gradcat 5y

Pickpick

Not my usual kind of story but the characters of Delpha and Phelan were well-drawn. A very atmospheric story. Some humor in the smaller cases but a lot of grit overall.
