Another great book about Malcolm X, I thought I knew most stories about him until I read this one. His autobiography left quite a lot out. He was a very complicated man. I def suggest reading the Autobiography of Malcolm X 1st if possible, this one add to that and mentions the book quite a bit

This books adds some amazing information, of each phase of Malcolm's life. Very informative and very deeply detailed. A Must Read!

Winner of the 2021 Pulitzer prize for biography. This is a fantastic book incredibly researched. Heavy but readable and filled with empathy and a balanced criticism. Highly recommend.

SamAnne I‘m waiting until I find the time to read Malcom X‘ autobiography, and the will read this. Sometime this year! 3y
ChaoticMissAdventures @SamAnne good plan it is interesting, Payne points out different, sometimes incorrect things in the autobiography. Reading it first and closely to this one will expand the experience. 3y
Eggs I too have wanted to read about Malcolm X for a long time 👏🏻👨🏾‍🦱👍🏼 3y

Listened to this on audio but want to revisit sections so have ordered a hardcover.

Les Payne worked on this book for decades and it shows. Hundreds of interviews and pages of research. I did not know the history of the Nation of Islam and thus weaves their creation with a biography of Malcolm, along with how the KKK, FBI and politics shaped and changed throughout his life.
Incredibly well put together and very readable.

SamAnne This is on my shortlist for 2021. On hold at the library. 3y
ChaoticMissAdventures @SamAnne I was pretty intimidated by it. It is a longer book, the only thing I could suggest is if you can reading MX's autobiography first. I am reading it next but many things Payne points out I feel it would have been better to have this as a follow up. 3y
SamAnne @ChaoticMissAdventures thanks for the tip. I think I will do that. 3y
