His stomach contents also reveal that several other pieces were dropped down his throat - is this some kind of elaborate torture? As Kate starts to investigate & more victims are killed, Not trusting herself or her colleagues completely after the trauma, the only voice of reason is that of her husband, Chris & he urges her to continue on. 13mo

The detective with personal issues is not a new thing, & Kate Young has several. She has PTSD from an earlier case which sends her into frequent breaks with the present & back to relive the scene of the shooting, & she seems to be addicted to pills 13mo

OutsmartYourShelf to cope. The plot itself is well plotted & very dark - be warned there are brief references to violent sex, & sex with minors. The plotline involving Superintendent Dickson looks as if it stretches over several books which is intriguing.

It was OK but it all felt a bit stilted & flat to me. I guessed the twist pretty much straight away & it was also fairly easy to pinpoint the killer too. 13mo

OutsmartYourShelf It was also odd that the main character went off her pills 'cold turkey' & didn't seem to suffer any side effects from that. I am going to read the next one as it did pique my interest enough to find out what happens next, but this one was fairly average overall. 3⭐

I really can't give a reason for finishing this except stubbornness. It was among those 10 free books from Amazon. The writing is so bad and yet this woman has published more than one book? The character descriptions/motivations are poor, there are huge plot holes. Sorry, Carol, I won't be rushing to read the next in the series. ⭐

Just finished this first book of a new detective series and I'm surprised that I ended up enjoying it a lot less than I thought I would... Especially considering I love her previous two detective series. 🤔
