In Compound Eleven, the hierarchy of the floors is everything. My name is Eve Hamilton, and on my floor, we fight. Which at least is better than the bottom floor, where they toil away in misery. Only the top floor has any ease in this harsh world; they rule from their gilded offices. Because four generations ago, Earth was rendered uninhabitablethe sun too hot, the land too barren. Those who remained were forced underground. While not a perfect life down here, Ive learned to survive as a fighter. Except my latest match is different. Instead of someone from the circuit, my opponent is a mysterious boy from the top floor. And the look in his eyes tells me hes different...maybe even kind. Right before he kicks my ass. Still, theres something about himsomething that says he could be my salvation...or my undoing. Because Im no longer content to just survive in Eleven. Today, I'm ready to fight for more than my next meal: I'm fighting for my freedom. And this boy may just be the edge I've been waiting on.

This was just okay…predictable AF, but okay. It didn‘t bring anything new to the genre…which at this point in a market saturated with so many similar types of dystopias, it needed to; at least if it wanted to stand out. Also…it was tedious at times with too many inane details that nobody needed to know. I doubt that I‘ll continue with the series. The narration by Justis Bolding was quite good.

3.9⭐️ We read this book for my hometown Book Club and overall I really enjoyed it. Dystopian‘s aren‘t my first genre pic, but I have enjoyed some really good ones throughout the years. I found this one to be creative and heartwarming; however, it was rather predictable. In fact, a quarter of the way through the story I gave a friend, my predictions. Pretty much to a tea what I thought would happen. Still good and still plan to finish the trilogy.

4✨I read this for my hometown book club, and so glad I did. I did read it really fast because I forgot that book club was this coming week, and that caused me to be lost with the amount of characters. Eve is a fighter and this is how she meets a top floor boy who is different than the rest. Sure he beat her up bad, but there is something about him. As Eve is working to get herself out to try her luck in the inhabitable outside he might be of help.
