Engagement and Espionage | Penny Reid
5 posts | 6 read | 5 to read
Jennifer Sylvester made her deal with the devil . . . and now theyre engaged! But all is not well in Green Valley. A chicken choker is on the loose, 61 dead birds most "fowl" need plucking, and no time remains for Jennifer and her devilish fianc. Desperate to find a spare moment together, Jenn and Cletuss attempts to reconnect are thwarted by one seemingly coincidental disaster after another. Its not long before Cletus and Jenn see a pattern emerge and the truth becomes clear. Sabotage! Will an undercover mission unmask the culprit? Or are these love-birds totally plucked? Engagement and Espionage' is the first book in the Solving for Pie: Cletus and Jenn Mysteries series, is a full-length cozy mystery, and is a spin-off of Penny Reid's Winston Brothers series. This novel is best read after 'Beard Science,' Winston Brothers #3.

I‘m not usually a fan of cozy mysteries, but honestly, Reid knows how to weave a cute, funny, intriguing tale. Her characters carry the story and they are all so brilliant and unique. I will forever read a novel with a Winston in it. I can‘t get enough of them, and these novels are keeping me happy and engaged! A secret fifth star added for the dirty chicken puns (almost as good as Cletus‘ famous sausage puns)🐔🤣❤️.

I forgot to review Dr. Strange Beard (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) because there was a huge gap in time (5 years) and a bomb was dropped as if readers knew about it... so I went down the rabbit hole, and discovered that Cletus and Jen have a side series of cozy mysteries (first one above), and after the first two, there is a Winston brothers 4.5 to read... backtracking now, but once again, thoroughly enjoying! #currentlylistening

Still on a Penny Reid kick! This should do for the Elevation prompt of #fourfoursin21 too: is set in the Smoky Mountains and there are mountains on the cover.

On my hook is an Adelong sweater in sparkly lavender wool from Knitcrate. It has an unusual construction, top down in rows. No getting marooned on Sleeve Island!

julesG Lovely sweater-to-be. 3y
Lauredhel @julesG it is a really lovely yarn 3y
AutumnRLS I love Penny Reid. Just got her new one that is the follow up to the one you posted. So fun! 3y

Lauredhel @AutumnRLS oh cool, enjoy! 3y
Clare-Dragonfly Ha, sounds like it‘s constructed like a knit sweater! 😆 I love the color. 3y
Lauredhel @Clare-Dragonfly Oh I haven't seen any knit sweaters constructed like this! Lots of round yokes or top down front panels but not full rows with sleeves (edited) 3y
julesG Did I mention the lovely tag I'm using for crochet projects? #HookersOfLitsy 😁😬😜 3y

Like a warm dip in a bubble bath with spicy undertones. I loved all the quippy humor and light mystery. Quick and fun and exactly what I needed! Book 1 finished for #joyousjanuary #readathon @Andrew65

Eyelit I‘ve had this on my list for a while and need to move it up. Loved Cletus & Jen in their earlier book! 3y
