Deuce's whole world has changed. Down below, she was considered an adult. Now, topside in a town called Salvation, she's a brat in need of training in the eyes of the townsfolk. She doesn't fit in with the other girls: Deuce only knows how to fight. To make matters worse, her Hunter partner, Fade, keeps Deuce at a distance. Her feelings for Fade haven't changed, but he seems not to want her around anymore. Confused and lonely, she starts looking for a way out. Deuce signs up to serve in the summer patrolsthose who make sure the planters can work the fields without danger. It should be routine, but things have been changing on the surface, just as they did below ground. The Freaks have grown smarter. They're watching. Waiting. Planning. The monsters don't intend to let Salvation survive, and it may take a girl like Deuce to turn back the tide.

Book 2, Deuce, Fade, Stalker & Tegan find respite in Salvation an outpost in where others have survived for years. Little do they know, but the Freaks are evolving, and the town is in danger. In this book, Deuce learns what it means to love and be loved, and she will do anything to protect that love.

I had every intention of sleeping after just a few chapters. I've read the whole book and I'm about to start the next.

I listened to this on CD, the audio is great. When I first bought this I didn't realize how young the characters were. Regardless, it's a very good listen. Definitely one I would suggest for teens. Deals with coming of age and teenage angst. Being the second in the series & having not read or listened to the first, I was happy that it came together enough I didn't feel like I missed a ton. Pick it up and give it a go if you like apocalyptic books

An engaging follow-up. I really enjoy Deuce's narration. Her voice walks a fine balance between tough and emotional, and it ties the rest of the characters to the story nicely. The plot still meandered restlessly, but the climax and resolution had a lot of promise for the conclusion. ★★★☆☆.

#currentlyreading | well, the post-apocalyptic countryside of NY is interesting, to say the least.

Better than the first book, but still awful. I can't believe she's trying to turn the serial gang rapist into the golden character. It's like trying to polish a turd.

BookJunkie429 @MandaRie I can't remember the books, who is the rapist? 8y
MandaRie @BookJunkie429 Stalker. He's the one who was responsible for the years of Teagan's rapes and ordered Duece's (I loathe her name) "forcible breeding" when she was first captured in Enclave. 8y
BookJunkie429 @MandaRie I should really reread the books. I didn't like her name either, it made me think of something else. 8y
