A picture book of poems that celebrate fathers from a two-time Coretta Scott King Honor--winning poet. Who is your hero? Whos your best friend? Who says he loves you again and again? Daddy! Told through the voice of a child, Anita Hope Smith's My Daddy Rules the World collection of poems celebrates everyday displays of fatherly love, from guitar lessons and wrestling matches to bedtime stories, haircuts in the kitchen, and cuddling in bed. These heartwarming poems, together with bold folk-art-inspired images, capture the strength and beauty of the relationship between father and child. A Christy Ottaviano Book

This P., Arnold Adoff Poetry Award winner book, it's about different kids sharing how their fathers are. They share why they think their Daddies rule the world. This book has great simple rhyming words. Students will gravitate towards the book and will help them to make connections. This book will be great doing IR. It would also be a perfect little book to give a wonderful dad on Father's Day.

This was a heartwarming example of poetry because the text moved easily, rhymed, and great emotion. The images helped enhance the emotion in the poems, and the poems were easy to follow.

blurb

I would use this in the classroom if I was teaching a family unit because the poems are short and heartwarming.

I would use this in my classroom around fathers day as an activity to inspire students what to say to their fathers.

This is a good poetry collection about a boy loving his dad. These poems have a good rhythm. Although I do feel as if some of the poems were a little cheesy.

I love the illustrations in this book. They look like the illustrator ripped pieces of paper and put them together to look like people. Very creative!

“My Daddy Rules the World: Poems about Dads“ by Hope Anita Smith, 2017. Poetry book. I thought this book was cute. The purpose is all about paying tribute to dads. This would appeal to most children, but as a teacher you must keep in mind not every child has a dad or has a good relationship with their dad. If I were to include this book, I'd make sure I have other books about moms, grandparents, or whatever resembles my students' families.

“When he goes to work, who do you miss?
Daddy!
And when he comes home, who do you kiss?
Daddy!”

blurb

It would be good to include this book in a classroom since it shares positive experiences between children and their fathers. If we read it in the class I would make sure to discuss the father in these poems might be someone‘s grandma to someone else, or someone‘s mom, or brother, or coach, and that everyone should get to experience the happiness in the poems with someone. I would be mindful of the different circumstances in my classroom

This is a picture poem book discussing all the good fathers bring. It shows a dads love for his child and can be extremely relatable. The book contains a lot of rhyming and figurative language. The illustrations are unique and diverse.

“His eyes look at my eyes,
and his voice is real low.
He says, “Buddy, there's something
I want you to know.
Wherever you go
and whatever you do,
we'll always be best friends.
That will always be true.“

blurb
ds111717

I would use this book in my classroom because it is full of positive experiences that children can relate to or if they are missing their dad, they can read the book and remember things about him. However, I would keep in mind that some of my students may not have a father figure so I would be sure to incorporate other pieces of literature such as books about moms, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.

This poetry book itself was really cute and contained a lot of rhyming characteristics with an involveness of figurative language and stories being told. The book was a collection of different poems all relating back to a child's dad. It is meant to evoke emotion and can allow kids to make connections to themselves along the way of reading them. Like i said, not all may have dads though and you'd have to be careful when integrating into classroom!

blurb
mack2799

This book is fun to read and a lot of kids will like reading it. However, if you are to integrate this into the classroom, you might need to think about if all kids actually have dads. Maybe they have same sex parents, or no parents, or grandparents only. A lot of factors could throw or make this turn off from the overall great story this is meant to be!

quote

“He helps me with my homework and always gets it right.”

blurb

I think the idea of this book is great. However, it may not be the best one to have in the classroom because not all students will have father‘s in their life.

This is a very sweet book. I don‘t think i would read it to a class just because some students don‘t have active fathers. and this book could upset some children.

This book is so sweet. It‘s about fathers. It was published in 2017. This book is very sweet and made me tear up. I love the illustrations and the overall theme. The only issues I have is some children don‘t have active fathers in their lives so this book could get some sensitive spots for some children. Overall though I enjoyed it.
