13 posts | 5 read | 1 to read
The 18th picture book in the New York Times bestselling series of biographies about heroes tells the story of Walt Disney, who made dreams come true. This friendly, fun biography series focuses on the traits that made our heroes great--the traits that kids can aspire to in order to live heroically themselves. Each book tells the story of one of America's icons in a lively, conversational way that works well for the youngest nonfiction readers and that always includes the hero's childhood influences. At the back are an excellent timeline and photos. This volume features Walt Disney, who makes dreams come true for himself and countless kids around the world.

I am Walt Disney🏰 This B, IR caught my eye. I‘m a huge fan of Disney and couldn‘t wait to get my hands on a cute biography of the man himself. This book is set up in a somewhat comic book style. We are introduced to Disney and his timeline of life and how the company ‘Walt Disney World‘ came about. This book can teach our students the importance of goal-setting and following their dreams. #ucflae3414sp21

acassatta The UDL principle 6.1- guide appropriate goal setting and 9.3- develop self-assessment and reflection correlate to this book and the idea that even at a young age, you can start creating goals for the life you want to have. This can be a great motivator for young children. In addition, ESOL strategy #28-provide biographies of significant men and women from different countries is a great way to spark interest and show other noteworthy people. 3y
acassatta ESOL strategy #29- offer a variety of reference materials at the students‘ instructional level for independent use could also be an effective strategy with the type of lesson plan I imagine this book to be compatible with. (edited) 3y

DrSpalding This is an excellent series and your English learner strategy is spot on! 3y
acassatta The following website includes an option for a character study the student can complete on any historical figure. This can correlate to Walt Disney OR any historical figure being discussed in a lesson. https://teachables.scholastic.com/teachables/books/Significant-Individual-Charac... 3y

Got this baby for Mother's Day and it's absolutely wonderful. I love this entire series but this is extra special. My happy place? Paying a lovely tribute to Rolly Crump & Mary Blair, my happy places are The Haunted Mansion and the It's a Small World attraction. ?
"To all who come to this happy place, welcome."

This is a good representation of biographies because it possesses qualities such as the style being clear and readable. It also shows notes about Disney's life in the back of the book.

I would read this to my class because I know a lot of children love Disney and I think they would find it interesting to know who came up with Disney.

Picked up my pre-orders from Park Road Books today. I love these Ordinary People Change the World Series kids books and I couldn‘t pass up owning the one featuring Walt! And of course, I had to grab order the book that @Liberty has been gushing about for months! 😆 #bookhaul #blameLiberty
