In this Mermaid Tales adventure, Shelly's not sure she's ready to be royalty. Not one of the merkids in Shelly Siren's third grade class can believe the shell-shattering news: Shelly is a princess! A real princess! It's been a deep, dark secret in Trident City, but now everyone knows--and Shelly doesn't know how to act. Should she start wearing a glittery crown? Or move to a grand undersea palace? Will her friends have to call her Princess Shelly? She knows it's an exciting turn of events, but Shelly's not sure she can truly fit the royal part. Can she find a way to be a princess and stay herself?

re “light (wherever it can be found)”: I was just chatting with a young patron about reading in the car. I was reminiscing about it getting dark & trying to read by the streetlights. I‘d wait until we drove past one & cram in a sentence before we zoomed too fast away from its glow. At the next light, one more sentence. I assumed kids now wouldn‘t have this problem (technology, book lights, iPhone flashlights) but she knew the struggle EXACTLY!

Butterfinger Or holding the book above your head so the car behind you would shine its lights on your book. I remember it well. Now, I get sick when I read. 5y
llwheeler Haha, I did that too! 😄 and staring at the page in the darkness in between streetlights so I wouldn't waste any of the light finding my place again... 5y
Zelma @Butterfinger yes, I remember doing that in the car! 5y
