pickI guess I really like depression era coming-of-age stories because I'm recommending another. Funny, touching, and smart! I was a young adult in the 80s when this was a bestseller and I think I've read it about ten times. It's been awhile, though...maybe time for another reread...

pickI found myself smiling at the little stories in here...my dad calls Faulkner Lite, and he's not wrong.
I find that this book benefits from long stretches of reading. Some books don't sip well.
I read this entire series in my 20s, and I was going to reread all of them but am dragging myself through the first one this time. Is it pacing? The distance between the narrator and the main character?
