Along the way, he deals with friendship, self-esteem, anxiety, racism, bullying, trying not to be outed as gay, and exploring his family's Indian roots. Rahul has been the target of bullying. He thinks the way out is to become the best at *something* (anything). He tries a few activities with disastrous results. This is a sweet MG book with a message about self acceptance, even (or especially) when you are less than perfect.
I cannot tell you how many times I‘ve lived this scene. This reference becomes more obscure every year...
