Rahul is trying to be the best at something but he‘d like it to be something cool like football or celebrity. When neither works out he resigns himself to signing up for Mathletes ; he is great at math but he doesn‘t like being classified as a nerd. Friendship troubles and a search for his true identity make this a great story for middle grade students.

I really enjoyed this book. It's an excellent middlegrade read about a boy trying to find something he can be the best at. Along the way, he deals with friendship, self-esteem, anxiety, racism, bullying, trying not to be outed as gay, and exploring his family's Indian roots. Highly recommend! #lgbtq #lgbtqauthors #pocauthors #india #middleschool

Finished this last night. Some of us were more tuckered out than others.

Rahul has been the target of bullying. He thinks the way out is to become the best at *something* (anything). He tries a few activities with disastrous results. This is a sweet MG book with a message about self acceptance, even (or especially) when you are less than perfect.

I cannot tell you how many times I‘ve lived this scene. This reference becomes more obscure every year...

Soubhiville I can‘t even guess how many times I watched that movie as a kid. 🤣. I still quote it sometimes too. It‘s actually appropriate that no one answered the teacher though. 👍 4y
