panI did not enjoy this book it was a very slow read and didn‘t move very far. It is about this kid named Jonathan and he goes to prison and it goes from there. I didn‘t read the whole thing because it didn‘t intrigue me to read anymore.

This book is very interesting and is something students will relate to. It is a tale about misfits and outcasts and many students will relate to this.
pickScar Island is about a group of boys sent to a reformatory school on an island. There is a freak accident and they are suddenly free on an island trying to work together and survive.

I think extras like this letter home that show up in books really stick out to the readers. This is the 4th letter he wrote home..
pick-contemporary realistic fiction
This book is an emotionally hard hitting survival story. The troubled boys are sent to a camp and end up having to fend for themselves. This seems to be an easy read but may be geared toward older readers because of the situations that occur.
pickCan‘t go wrong with Dan Gemeinhart! This is a very entertaining read about delinquent boys in prison who unexpectedly find themselves without adult supervision. Reminiscent of “Holes” and “Lord of the Flies,” this middle grade novel is engaging and emotional with great characters and a giant rat!

pickFor me personally this is only a so-so. But I'm going to boost it up to pick status because I am not the intended audience of grades 4-7. As an adult I found the plot and parallels to Lord of the Flies too shallowly rendered and too obvious. But the intended audience isn't going to have that issue and I think they will be much more satisfied with it. I'm rating with them in mind.

pickIt's been a long time since I've read a middle grade novel. Friends, #ScarIsland did not disappoint. I even downloaded the audiobook so I didn't have to stop reading while driving. The story was engaging, a tiny bit suspenseful, and a definite recommendation. Especially if you know any middle grade boys that are starting to think that reading isn't cool any more. Seriously, give them this book.
A mixing of free books from work, library books that came in from hold, and library books from the kiddo's school. So, so excited to read Gilded Cage! It just came out Tuesday so I'm surprised I got my hold so soon! But, I have two other library books to read before I can get to it :(

About to start this one. Sounds like it will be a great survival story. Maybe a bit Lord of the Flies. Also, anyone else read TOUCHING SPIRIT BEAR by Ben Michaelson? That might not be how to spell his last name, but this one definitely has some similarities to that one, too.
