Love Vonnegut's work. This was eh.

His first and last works in one book with an intro by daughter Nanette. The first, Basic Training, was fun irony with a great plot and characters. The 2nd, If God were Alive Today, was a wash for me. I know it‘s supposed to be dark satire but it read like back-alley esoterica

I‘m so sad to say I bailed on this. Kurt is one of my long time loves. His novels have been a constant in my life for over a decade. This is one of the only books I haven‘t read so I snagged it last time I was at the library. I couldn‘t even force myself through the first short story. I can honestly say I get why it was never published. I‘ll keep coming back to Vonnegut time after time, but I don‘t ever see myself reaching for this again.
