In this rollicking queer western adventure, acclaimed cartoonist Melanie Gillman (Stonewall Award Honor Book As the Crow Flies) puts readers in the saddle alongside Flor and Grace, a Latinx outlaw and a trans runaway, as they team up to thwart a Confederate plot in the New Mexico Territory. When Flor--also known as the notorious Ghost Hawk--robs the stagecoach that Grace has used to escape her Georgia home, the first thing on her mind is ransom. But when the two get to talking about Flor's plan to crash a Confederate gala and steal some crucial documents, Grace convinces Flor to let her join the heist.

4 ⭐ This LGBTQ positive historical graphic novel is about a stagecoach bobber and her hostage. Her hostage becomes not only her love interest, but her co-conspirator in a plan to steal from the wealthy and set off in a new life. This is a quick, fun story that anyone‘s sure to enjoy it. In the back, the author gives you different info tidbit about events taking place on different pages. They include information

LibrarianRyan about real trans soldiers as well as historical movements, and things that happened. Overall, this is well done. It was a very entertaining and interesting read. 10mo

In celebration of the #TransRightsReadathon, I'm highlighting openly trans and nonbinary authors this week. Want some unreasonably gorgeous comics in your life? Pick up Melanie Gillman! Their art is absolute eye candy, and the stories are excellent.

Please consider donating to organizations that support our trans and nonbinary communities, such as Black Trans Advocacy Coalition at https://blacktrans.org/

psalva Other Ever Afters is currently nominated for a Lambda Literary Award in comics. I‘m hoping to get to that one soon ☺️ 13mo

I completely loved this comic! Gillman is a new favorite of mine, but I found this book by coincidence. I wasn't sure what to expect from this queer historical story, and absolutely loved the ending. The end notes were also great and showed off some interesting history. #LGBTQ #Comic #HistoricalFiction

Kenyazero @AbigailJaneBlog this book ends with some end notes explaining a few historical things that appear in the comic, and the first one is a few paragraphs elaborating on this a bit. It was really great! 1y

A beautifully drawn #ya #graphicnovel about Grace and Flor, a runaway and an outlaw in Civil War-era New Mexico. Grace is trans and running away from conscription into the Confederate army, and Flor is looking for one last heist that will let her leave this outlaw life... A sweet LGBTQIA adventure with lots of historical details. I only wish it was longer.

This sweet graphic novel adventure features a diverse cast of gender nonconformists. Nonbinary cartoonist Melanie Gillman‘s delicate coloured pencil art, in subdued tones that bring antique maps to mind, carefully portrays the setting: 1861 New Mexico Territory. Extensive annotations at the back attest to the work‘s historical accuracy. #AllAges. #LGBTQ #GraphicNovel #comics

In the annotations at the back of the book, Gillman notes a fun fact: “Coat hangers weren‘t invented until 1869, so I had to come up with a different solution for how Luis would display sample dresses for his customers.”

A sweet and adorable graphic novel that explores some of the diversity often ignored in depictions of the American West. A bandit and a young trans woman trying to escape "conscription" into the Confederacy work together to uncover Confederate plans to take New Mexico territory for the Union.
