For #WWW and #recommendsday, I suggest the story of Marie Tharp. A geologist in a time when women were not truly accepted in the sciences, she was not allowed out on the boat to take soundings of the ocean floor. So, she worked with the data in the lab and singlehandedly figured out how to map the ocean floor. A fascinating story of a remarkable woman.

I have a bias against books that are marketed as biographies on one person but the "biographer" continually inserts themselves into the narrative. While Tharp most definitely needs a book (or many) written about her this is not the one to read.
