I loved both of these books. They were both really cute.
In Kitten's First Full Moon, the kitten thinks the moon is a bowl of milk and tries different ways to get to it.
In Strega Nona, good, honest help is hard to find, especially when you have a magic pot that will instantly make pasta 😸

Strega Nona stamps acquired.
The US Postal Service just announced that in 2023 they will have a line for Forever Stamps featuring Tomie dePaola‘s art! 😍🤩😍🤩😍
I can‘t wait to buy them! #pastapotpastapot #makemesomepasta #stregaNona
I love this book! A classic folktale about a witch who leaves town and Big Anthony tries to cast one of her spells! Because he didn‘t watch her all the way, he ends up causing a big mess! Luckily Strega Nona comes back, and all that is damaged is Big Anthony‘s stomach from all the pasta he must eat/clean up!
3.5/5⭐ Sometimes you just need to read a kid's book about an old Italian witch beloved by her town.
Plot is nearly identical to that of The Magic Pot by Margie Bell. #bookspinbingo #doublespin
One of my favorites hearing as a young kid! Love the story this teaches about helping others!
Strega Nona! This folktale CL Caldecott winner is about an old (witch) woman who can cure headaches, find love, etc. She helps the other people in her village. As she gets older, she hires a young man named Big Anthony to help her with her chores. https://www.britannica.com/art/childrens-literature This utilizes UDL: 2.4 Promote understanding across languages

Strega Nona is a charming TL picture book about a village‘s beloved old “grandmother witch,” her magic pasta pot, and a naughty servant boy whose attempt to use magic goes very wrong! This book, charmingly written and Illustrated by Tomie dePaola, won a Caldecott honor. This F Caldecott winner is a classic that I remember from Elementary school. Strega Nona (which means Grandma Witch) is a woman who uses potions and her “magic touch“ to help the people in her town in Calabria. Big Anthony is Strega Nona's assistant and although he means well, his inability to pay attention gets him into a huge mess. He breaks her one rule and touches the pasta pot, resulting in a gigantic pasta mess that only Strega Nona can fix.

In creating this post I discovered that Tomie DePaola has just passed away and the world of children's literature has taken a huge loss. This book is one I remember from my own elementary years and I plan to continue teaching Tomie DePaola's works in my future classrooms. Strega Nona is the first in the series of Strega Nona tales. This is a TL Caldecott winning picture book about an elderly woman named Strega Nona who uses her magic to help
Sad news in the book world. CNN is reporting that Tomie dePaola died yesterday after complications from surgery after a fall in his barn which he used as a studio. Such a wonderful author and illustrator whose books many of us grew up with, books which are, of course, still staples in many libraries. Time to revisit some old favorites including the tagged book.
Ack 🍝🍝🍝🍝🍝 RIP Tomie
Strega: Such a wonderful character!!

Mr. dePaola, you will be missed. But your stories will live on forever. Thank you for your stories, but especially Strega Nona. #tomiedepaola #streganona #pastapotpastapot #restinpeace
The world of Children‘s Lit lost a wonderful man today📚😢 Tomie De Paola passed away today. My boys and I love his books! I still have all of his books! So heartbroken! 😭
“All right, Anthony, you wanted pasta from my magic pasta pot and I want to sleep in my little bed tonight. So start eating.”
Strega Nona has a good lesson for early childhood classrooms. I would use this book for when students are having trouble in the classroom with greed and taking.
Strega Nona Is a Traditional literature tale from the 70's that tells of a witch. The witch gets help from a boy and he watches her through her processes. Without giving too much away the story is about not letting greed take over you.
Strega Nona (Grandma Witch) written by: Tommie dePaola is a TL folktale about not allowing your greed and curiosity get the best of you. The UDL 1.3 regarding offering alternatives for visual information along with EL 4 for linking lesson topic to students' prior knowledge. It can be incorporated into many classroom lessons, which agrees with educational standards. #UCFLAE3414F19
The TL PB Strega Nona written and illustrated by Tomie dePaola, a Caldecott winner, is a perfect choice for PR in your PK-5th classes. Strega Nona is a nice, old witch with a love for pasta. She hires a boy named Big Anthony to help her with her chores around her house. Big Anthony observes her singing to the pasta when magically, all of a sudden, she has a large pot of pasta! This PB teaches the consequences of being dishonest. #UCFLAE3414F19

“All right, Anthony, you wanted pasta from my magic pasta pot and I want to sleep in my little bed tonight. So start eating.”
Strega Nona by Tomie DePaola was one of my favorite books. This is a great read for younger children. It teaches children a life lesson of listening or things could turn out how you don‘t want them to. The pasta being the thing that could ruin the town was humorous. I would definitely read this to my classroom.
This TL book has won the Caldecott award for the amazing illustrations. This book is about Strega Nona who is the town witch that helps the community with spells, remedies, and food. In this story she hires the help of Big Anthony who loses Strega Nona‘s trust one day. This could be a RA book and the resource below can incorporate a class discussion about trust, punishment and authority. #ucflae3414su19
#WitchyReads Day 9: Tomie DePaola has created a brilliant series of delightful #WitchyReads with Strega Nona who is some kind of female witch doctor whom people in town run to if they need potions, cures, or simply comfort. Fats‘ full review here: https://wp.me/pDlzr-7LL

This TL book is one that I have read many times over the course of my life. This book tells the story of a grandma witch who‘s magical pot makes so much pasta that it nearly ruins an entire town! This book is so much fun and would make a great S book. I can‘t wait to use this one in my classroom. This would be great for all elementary ages. #ucflae3414sp18
