I like the 1920s, and while I enjoyed historical aspects of this book (e.g. the slang and fashion), it seemed to be missing some things (like any awareness of the Great War or the Spanish Flu epidemic). A bit (actually, maybe more than a bit) idealized, but still a relatively enjoyable read.

FINALLY finished this audiobook. Takes me so long to get thru audio.
I‘ll give this 2.5 stars. The storyline had its ups & downs. I chose it for the time period. 1920s Chicago. But the author chose to use the term “black” about African-American characters which got to where it really aggravated me because it sort of took you out of the time period. I wonder how authors make these decisions.
I really wouldn‘t recommend this one to anybody.

Current audiobook. Learning some 1920s slang. But also heard “hot minute” and another term I can‘t recall that struck me as much newer than this era.

9 minutes into the first of the #Flappers series #audiobook and I already learned some 1920s slang.

If the 1920s were a giant pile of info, Larkin took only from the very top of it. Seriously she threw in a little 20s jargon, very unnaturally, and focused mainly on fashion. Yes there was some cool fashion but that‘s not just what flappers where about. The characters were flat & somehow completely flipped personalities by a page turn. The writing was also awful. This story just did not live up to the cool cover.

Im iffy about this book and maybe that‘s why this is annoying. I hate the phrase “burst out laughing” because it seems so unnatural in most cases, especially when nothing that funny happened! (Not all of course) The way I see it in my head just doesn‘t seem right, but it could just be the book! 😅

Leftcoastzen I agree. l have a problem when they “ declare “ something like that inappropriately. If a writer does that a few times , the Book becomes a DNF for me. 6y
Ash.on.the.line @Leftcoastzen I‘m glad I‘m not the only one. I agree about repeating such phrases, shows a lack of creativity and a thesaurus! 😝 6y

A little late TBR pile question: a book bought because of the cover?
I saw her and had to snatch it up. The bad side is that I bought and realized it‘s a series lol! 🤦🏻‍♀️😂
So if I like it I might have to buy more! I don‘t know how many but in the back it says look for the next book etc etc etc. 😩😂
I want it to be good though.

TricksyTails That is a pretty cover! I hope it's good, too, so you can tell me to add it to my TBR! 6y
Ash.on.the.line @TricksyTails I‘m sure Litsy will be first to know! 😂 once I finally get to it! 6y
