A teenage runaway...a serial killer...an ex FBI agent. A gripping novel of suspense from the New York Timesbestseller. Kate Conlan, ex-FBI agent, finds herself protecting a teenage runaway from a serial killer who burns women alive... Known as the Cremator, the serial killer has already claimed three victims, and there's only one witness, who's not talking. Kate Conlan can't tell if she's working with a reluctant witness, a potential victim, or something more sinister still. As she battles with demons of her own, and amid the frenzy of media attention, Kate finds herself on the trail of the Cremator. She's got what it takes to stop him. And he wants her alone...

Pretty standard crime fiction. I enjoyed it even though it didn't really stand out as anything terribly special and did induce a few eye rolls. I will probably read more in this series. Especially since someone in my neighborhood often leaves them in the LFL down the street. I am a bit confused that the MCs followed in the series felt more like secondary characters in this one. I'm interested to see how that plays out.

Not a horrible initial impression. I'll give the second in the series a read but am not holding out much hope.
