A illustrated biography about, biologist Ernest Everett Just. An interesting read for young readers getting into non-fiction text and biographies. It has great illustrations and is written well for readers to really grasp and learn more about influential people they may have never heard of beforehand.

#SavvySettings Day 7: cell biologist Ernest Everett Just was born in 1883 and started teaching at Howard University in 1907. The story begins with Ernest as a field scientist, meticulously collecting data from nature, and examining his specimens in the #laboratory. I appreciated bearing witness to the challenges he faced as a Professor who was a person of color at Howard University My review here: https://wp.me/pDlzr-nFw

I had never heard of Ernest Everett Just before reading this book which, considering his contributions to our understanding of cells, should be shameful. His story is riveting and Luisa Uribe‘s illustrations brings it to life in a stunningly colorful way. There is so much to take away from this book, but one of the most important and saddest is how such a pioneering scientist can be forgotten. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Tjackson My school district has a school named after him - EE Just Middle School. 6y

WanderingBookaneer @Tjackson : Wow! She died so young too... Who knows what else she would have been able to accomplish. 6y
night_shift I've never heard of this guy. My library hasn't ordered it yet, so I requested them to! 6y

4⭐️ This was an interesting look at a scientist most students can not readily name. Ernest Everett is the reason we know so much about cellular development. This book looks more at his life, and gives the reader just the basics of his scientific study. I like this, because the author didn‘t shy away from the hard stuff such as the death of Ernest‘s father, failing a class, move to France because of his treatment as a person of color in the US.
