pickFinally read this used battered copy I‘ve been hauling around for decades. Have never dived into Rich before but now want to read her later collections and the recent biography of her. This book is very dated. But 4 stars for her early poems, 5 for her later work, 5 for her essays included, 1-2 stars for the critical essays written by others except for the one by Erica Jong which is a 4-5.
“I was in danger of verbalizing my moral impulses out of existence.” Reading a battered used copy of tagged, my first time reading much Adrienne Rich. Poems are in chronological order and the reader watches her transformation in thought and politics. One poem begins with this quote by the Jesuit activist Daniel Berrigan, when he was on trial for his anti-Vietnam war activities. It spoke to me. #poetrymatters #activismmatters
