Sørine is gifted by the King of Denmark to the psychopathic Tsar, Peter the Great who has an affinity for collecting dwarfs and whatever other "curiosities" his eyes fall upon. Sørine lives her days in a state of perpetual squalor and vulgarity, she is crude, hateful, and self serving and yet I couldn't help but love her.
