Pickpick

This was a wonderful read, but brutal in places. It‘s a coming-of-age tale about a boy searching for his father who is in the Confederate Army. He finds him at Gettysburg. The writing is pitch perfect as far as characters and their voices. There are spots where it‘s not for the faint of heart, but it was so worth it. And it was a Little Free Library find (and returned)! A surprising find, that I recommend!

I liked it but did not love it. Beautiful writing but it really felt like it was just trying too hard maybe. Can't put my finger on exactly what it is, but it just kind of fell short unfortunately. Perhaps the style of writing got my hopes up too high?

Up next! I've been trying to chip away at my challenges lately and this one is for the #LitsyReadingChallenge bingo - "published ten years ago". #LRC6 (and this will be # 31 for #MountTBR ??).

A 14-year-old is sent off by his mother to find his father in the midst of the Civil War - wearing the coat she sewed for him to keep him safe (blue on one side, grey on the other). I'm finding the writing terse, dark and atmospheric so far. ?

becausetrains That sounds like a good way to get shot by both sides 😳 7y
