Bonsai is Zambra's debut. A novella, my edition clocks in around 70 pages. It tells of Julio & Emilia's relationship & subsequent lives afterwards, although much of the telling is between the lines. It is at times meta & ironic & I couldn't help but think of Bolano's idealistic characters in love with life and literature who become jaded. An emotionally impactful read, despite the brevity.

A novella, so short you can read in one sitting. My first read from Chile. Looking forward to more Zambra's books. 😊👏

Great author. This book deserves the tag of novel...even if Zambra himself was reluctant to call it so.
